General rules for fishing the UEA Broad:
Anyone caught in breach of these rules will receive a ban.
- Fishing by season permit only, available from UEASAAC.
- All tickets expire on 31st March. Renewals will be sent to existing members and are accessible through clubmate.
- The fishing season is continuous, but the committee will impose a ‘close season’ when fish are spawning. Notice will be given to members when the lake is closed. This is likely to be during June and July.
- No fishing during the close season (Defined by the committee).
- Anglers must hold a current Environment Agency course fishing license and obey the byelaws.
- Maximum of 3 rods per angler (use of 3 rods requires a 3-rod Environment Agency course fishing license).
- Dawn to Dusk only Permit Holders must not remain on the UEA Broad overnight.
- Dawn to Dusk plus Night Fishing Permits are only available to anglers age 18 years and over.
- Fishing sessions are strictly limited to 48 hours. After this time the angler must leave the UEA Broad with all their equipment and must not return to occupy a peg for 24 hours.
- Angling is only permitted from marked pegs. Entering the water to cast or bait up is strictly prohibited.
- Only one angler per peg, except where an angler age under 14 years is being supervised (see General Rule 11).
- In the interest of safety, all Permit Holders age under 14 years must be supervised by a member or Permit Holder age 18 years or older at the same peg.
- Anglers must not unreasonably prevent other anglers from fishing their peg of choice by casting across other pegs. The general rule is first come first served. The angler already fishing has priority.
- Baiting and pre-baiting only in moderation and respectful of other anglers. No pre-baiting when anglers fishing nearby. Pre-baiting a swim does not preclude another angler from fishing if the swim is unoccupied.
- Anglers are responsible for all litter and waste tackle at the peg. All litter and waste tackle must be taken home regardless of whether it is yours. Have a big tidy up at the end of your session.
- Cutting of bankside vegetation is prohibited.
- No fish to be unhooked on the ground/platforms unless an unhooking mat is used.
- All fish must be returned to the UEA Broad.
- Carp and Pike must be returned to the water as soon as possible.
- Carp-safe rigs only (lead clip, running lead, safe helicopter, or similar).
- ‘Dead bait’ Pike fishing is allowed from 1st October until 31st March.
- Single hook rigs only, except for pike fishing.
- Treble hooks with a single barb (semi-barbed). However, the use of barbless trebles is encouraged.
- Dead baiting with sea fish, lamprey, or trout only.
- No live baiting.
- Unauthorised vehicles must not be taken down to the UEA Broad.
- Only UEASAAC sanctioned matches.
- Designated match pegs are closed from one hour before the match start time until one hour after the match conclusion (see Match Fixtures).
- No tents (genuine angling brollies/bivvies only).
- No open fires or BBQs (camping stoves may be used).
- Always remain polite and courteous to people around you. There are many people that enjoy the broad. Conflict will not be tolerated.
- Non-prescribed behavioural changing substances are banned on the UEA Broad. Any Member or Permit Holder affected by such substances, whether consumed or administered on the UEA Broad, will be deemed as being in breach of the rule. This will automatically result in a lifetime ban.
Any unacceptable behaviour, including excessive consumption of alcohol or breaking of the rules above, will result in the immediate withdrawal of the fishing permit. The angler will be asked to explain their actions to the UEASAAC Committee who will consider the matter and may decide to impose a lifetime ban. No monies will be refunded.
These rules may be amended from time to time by the UEASAAC Committee.
